Donovan Bennett is the athlete in the spotlight this week! Donovan has been Crossfitting for about 9 months. He heard about it from a friend that also worked out at 810 CrossFit. His interest was sparked to try CrossFit because he knew it would get him in shape for jiu-jitsu. He realized he "drank the medicine" and fell in love with CrossFit when he took a week off and felt an obvious difference in his fitness and well-being. Since he began CrossFit, Donovan said, "Physically, I feel stronger and less injury prone." His strengths in the gym are flexibility and bodyweight workouts. His weakness is the Olympic Weightlifting aspect of CrossFit. He plans to improve on this area by continuing to practice consistently. When asked how CrossFit has changed his life or shaped who he is today, Donovan said, "It has helped me in the fact that I push myself, but still want other people to do better, too. It is a friendly rivalry, not just about me."
Here are all events (fundraisers/competitions/seminars) within a 4 hour radius of us. If we are missing something please email Joe at email@example.com so we can get it up!
On Saturday, December 7th, the 1,000th WOD event will be taking place at CrossFit Macomb. For details and registration, click HERE!
These are NOT competitions, these are CrossFit Specialty courses designed to increase knowledge in a certain area. They will focus on a unique skill set and go further in depth with just that particular area.
ONLY when you are ready in your CrossFit venture to dip into competition, this is your place to check for local events. We will diligently work to have all competitions within a 4 hour radius of 810 CrossFit listed in this post. Competition is fierce, it is aggressive, and it may or may not be for you. Either way, no matter where you are in your CrossFit venture, 810 CrossFIt is designed for EVERYONE. 810 CrossFIt has a scope and sequence of turning you into another level of athlete. We try to frustrate you. We try to make it nerve-racking. We test your perseverance. The reaped benefits are extremely gratifying at 810. When or if you decide to enter into the competition domain, it will push you beyond what you thought was possible. It will turn you into another level of an athlete. It will frustrate you once again. It will be nerve-racking, once again. It will test your perseverance, once again. Lastly, it will be extremely gratifying.
So I have to give props to the high school building notes that I received via email a few weeks ago as they are the source for this week's blog. Admittedly I usually skim and scan through them, sometimes making faces behind the safety of my computer screen, but one item actually stuck out. It deals with complaining. I'm all about venting, blowing off steam, and going on with life. There are times, however, where your "needle" can get stuck and you perseverate on your issue. Here is a quote that can provide for some thought, "complaining is like vomiting. Afterwards you feel better but everyone around you feels sick."
This week, we are getting to know Trent Hillger! Trent has been CrossFitting for two, going on three, years. He learned about CrossFit through Joe DeGain at a wrestling camp where CrossFit was incorporated. His interest in CrossFit was sparked through his drive to become strong and more athletic. Trent "drank the medicine" and fell in love with CrossFit the very first time he did it. His first WOD was a 12 minute amrap of 100 burpees! When asked what has changed in his life since he began CrossFit, he said, "I just feel stronger and more athletic, especially with wrestling and football." His strengths in the gym are squat cleans and deadlifts, and his weaknesses are in muscle-ups and snatches. Trent plans to improve on his weaknesses by "just keeping training harder and harder." CrossFit has helped shape who Trent is today. He said, "I'm just mentally tougher, like in wrestling matches. Especially in long ones, overtime matches. And in some of the tough workouts."
Thank you, Trent!
